1. The 33rd International Danube Symposium for Neurological Sciences and Continuing Education (Lublin, Poland, 29 August--1 September, 2001.)

 

The next main event of the DS will be the 33rd International Danube Symposium for Neurological Sciences and Continuing Education in Lublin. This will be the first International Danube Symposium to take place in Poland. Chairman of the Local Organising Committee is Professor Zbigniew Stelmasiak, President of the Polish Society of Neurology.

Main topics of the Symposium will be:

  • Stroke, Dementia, MS, Epilepsy, Neuroimaging, Involuntary Movements, Neuroethics.

Further, the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees invites young neurologists (aged 35 and under) and neurology trainees to attend a two-hour satellite symposium on 29.08.2001 and a poster session. The following topics for the YNT satellite symposium are planned:

  • Clinical Neurology (e.g. Vascular, Movement Disorders, Headache, MS, Dementia), Neuroscience (e.g. Genetics, Biomarkers, Electrophysiology) and Clinical Training in Neurology.

2. The 34th International Danube Symposium for Neurological Sciences and Continuing Education (Bratislava, Slovakia, 22-23 August 2002.) -- preliminary programme

 

The organisational matters of the 34th Danube Symposium will be provided by the Medical School of Comenius University in Bratislava and its 1st Department of Neurology as well as the Slovak Postgradual Academy of Medicine in Bratislava. The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee is Professor Pavel Traubner, M.D., PhD, Head of the 1st Department of Neurology and Dean of the Medical School of Comenius University, Bratislava.

  • The planned main topics in accordance with the preliminary scientific programme, will be as follows:

Cerebrovascular diseases, Dementias, Neuroethics, Epilepsy, Reinnervation, Neurooncology.

  • The Symposium will be preceded by Presymposium Teaching Courses in the following topics: Movement Disorders, Ultrasonography in Vertebrobasilar Region and Epilepsy.

 

3. Future Danube Meetings, Symposia

 

  • 2003: 35 th International Danube Symposium (Lvav, Ucraine)
  • 2004: 36 th International Danube Symposium (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
  • 2005: 37 th International Danube Symposium (suggested: Brno, Czech Republic, or Bucuresti, Rumania)
  • 2006: 38 th International Danube Symposium (suggested: Brno, Czech Republic or Bucuresti, Rumania)
  • 2007: 39 th International Danube Symposium (Würzburg, Germany).

 

4. European Journal of Neurology (Official Journal of EFNS)

 

The European Journal of Neurology, official journal of the European Federation of Neurological Societies, can be ordered at a reduced rate for EFNS members, and societies affiliated to the EFNS. The journal is published bimonthly, and back issues are available. Papers for possible publication are invited now (impact factor: 0,670).

5. Danube Neurology Training Programme

In the framework of the Danube Neurology Training Programme, Dr. Marija Semnic, MD, neurologist (Department of Neurology; Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Clinical Center Novi Sad, Jugoslavia) spent 4 weeks in November 2000. at the Department of Neurology, Szeged. She visited one week each the following sections/units of the Department of Neurology: In-patient Department, Outpatient Department, Electrphysiology and Laboratory of CSF. In order to get familiar with the everyday routine of our Department, she also took part at the everyday Morning Discussion, Radiological Meeting and Afternoon Discussion.

It is planned to have similar organisations, and we are looking forward to welcome other colleagues at our Department, or eventually at other Neurological Departments of this region.

 

6. Further Activities of the Danube Symposium Group in the future

 

As to the future activities of the Danube Symposium Group, we would like to organise a Danube Training Course in Szeged, Hungary, in Spring 2003. According to the preliminary scientific programme, the main topic to be discussed would be Novel Treatment Strategies of Neurological Disorders; the Meeting should concentrate on young neurologists, trainees, PhD-students, etc.

The exact date and the programme will be decided later.
